About HMC
HMC is one of the two best-known halal certifiers in the UK. It is known for strict standards: it does not accept any form of stunning, requires hand slaughter by a Muslim, and places inspectors in the abattoirs, cutting plants, butchers and restaurants it certifies. Many UK Muslims specifically look for the HMC logo on meat and restaurants.
How to check a certificate
- Look for the logo on the pack or a certificate displayed in the restaurant, with an expiry date.
- Search the business or product on HMC's official website.
- Be wary of logos that look similar but are not the official mark.
