Is Music Haram in Islam?

Quick answer Scholars differ

Scholars differ. The majority of classical scholars across the four schools held that musical instruments are prohibited, based on hadith, except the daff (frame drum) on occasions like weddings and Eid. A minority of classical and contemporary scholars permit music whose content is clean. Songs with immoral lyrics are prohibited by all. Vocals-only nasheeds are widely accepted.
