About us
Your everyday halal companion.
Halal Check Online helps Muslims — and the people who cook, cater and care for them — make halal choices with confidence: in the supermarket aisle, at the dinner table, at prayer time and wherever questions come up.
Why we exist
Anyone who has stood in a shop turning a packet over knows the problem. The ingredients list is tiny. It is full of codes like E471 and E120. Search online and you find five websites with five different answers — often with no reason given, and no sign of whether the answer follows your school of thought.
We think Muslims deserve better than guesswork. So we built one place that gives a clear answer, shows the reasoning behind it, and lets you choose the standard you follow.
What Halal Check Online does
Checks any label
Scan a barcode, photograph the ingredients or paste them in. Every ingredient is flagged halal, doubtful or haram — with the reason.
Answers real questions
From crab and gelatine to mortgages, crypto and tattoos — clear answers with the view of each school of thought.
Prayer times & Qibla
Accurate daily times for UK cities, Hanafi or standard Asr, monthly timetables and the Qibla direction.
Finds mosques
Mosques across the UK with addresses and directions — and a "near me" button.
What we stand for
Reasons, not just colours
A red or green label is not enough. Every verdict explains what an ingredient is made from and why it matters, so you can decide for yourself.
Every school of thought, respected
Where scholars genuinely differ — Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali or Ja'fari — we show each view instead of picking one for you. Your settings change every verdict instantly.
Honest about what we don't know
We summarise scholarly views; we don't issue fatwas. An ingredient check is not a halal certificate, and we say so. When in doubt, ask a scholar you trust.
Free, private and built for your phone
No sign-up and no scan limits. Photos of labels are read on your device and never uploaded. It installs like an app and keeps working offline in the shop.
How we decide
We classify ingredients by what they are made from, using published food-science information, the standards of major halal certifiers and mainstream scholarly opinion. Answers to wider questions summarise the recognised positions of each school and of bodies such as national fatwa councils. Every page shows when it was last reviewed.

Product ingredient lists come from Open Food Facts and mosque locations from OpenStreetMap — two volunteer projects that anyone can improve. Thank you to their contributors.
