Is Milka Chocolate Halal?

Quick answer It depends

Milka chocolate is not halal-certified in the UK or most of Europe. Plain Milka bars contain milk chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter and emulsifiers, with no pork, gelatine or alcohol, so many Muslims eat them. Filled bars and some seasonal products can contain gelatine, alcohol or whey, so check each pack.

Milka is made by Mondelez, which also makes Cadbury. Plain bars use milk, sugar, cocoa and an emulsifier, usually soya lecithin. Whey and milk are halal.

What to check

  • Gelatine in marshmallow, mousse and some filled products.
  • Alcohol in liqueur, rum or "praline" fillings.
  • Emulsifiers such as E471 or E476 without a stated plant source.

Halal Milka

Some Mondelez products are halal-certified in Muslim-majority countries and carry a local halal logo. Packs sold in the UK and Europe do not. See is chocolate halal? and Cadbury.
