Is Microblading Haram?

Quick answer Scholars differ

Many scholars treat microblading like a tattoo, because pigment is placed under the skin, and so do not allow it. Others say that because it fades within one to three years it is closer to makeup. Brow tinting and henna are alternatives most scholars accept.

Also asked as: “Is eyebrow microblading allowed in Islam?” · “Is semi-permanent makeup haram?”

The stricter view

Tattooing is forbidden in hadith, and microblading also inserts pigment under the skin. Shaping the brows may also raise the plucking question: see plucking eyebrows.

The more lenient view

Some scholars distinguish semi-permanent pigment that fades from a permanent tattoo.

Alternatives

Brow pencil, tint and henna brows sit on the surface and are widely accepted.

Microblading and tattoos

Microblading deposits pigment in the upper layers of the skin to look like hairs, and it fades after one to three years. Permanent tattoos go deeper and last.

Scholars who forbid it treat it as a tattoo. Eyebrow tinting, brow pencils and henna are widely accepted alternatives.
