Is Henna Halal?

Quick answer Halal

Yes. Henna is a plant dye used in the time of the Prophet ﷺ, and it is halal for women on hands, feet and hair. Men may dye hair and beards with henna; decorative henna on men's hands is discouraged by many scholars. Wudu is valid because henna does not block water.

Henna for Eid and weddings

Henna is a plant dye used on hands and feet for weddings and Eid in South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. Natural henna paste is brown to orange and fades within a couple of weeks.

Black henna often contains PPD, a chemical that can cause severe allergic reactions, so avoid it. Natural henna does not stop water reaching the skin, so it does not affect wudu.
