About HFSAA

HFSAA is a US certifier known for strict "zabiha" standards: hand slaughter by a Muslim with no stunning, and on-site monitoring. It certifies meat suppliers, restaurants and stores, mainly in North America.

How to check a certificate

  • Look for the logo on the pack or a certificate displayed in the restaurant, with an expiry date.
  • Search the business or product on HFSAA's official website.
  • Be wary of logos that look similar but are not the official mark.

Scholars differ on stunning and machine slaughter — see Is stunned meat halal? and machine-slaughtered chicken.
