What to check
- Mirin and sake in sauces: see is mirin halal?
- The chicken's certification.
How to check a branch
Check the chain's own website or allergen guide, look for a halal certificate on display and its date, and ask staff which items are halal and how they are cooked. Franchise branches can differ from each other.
itsu at the supermarket
itsu's rice noodle pots sold in supermarkets have their own ingredient lists, separate from the restaurants. The "chick'n" ramen contains no chicken, but the itsu noodle pots we checked list alcohol in the broth paste, which many Muslims avoid. See the itsu supermarket products we have checked.
