Is Costa Coffee Halal?

Quick answer It depends

Costa's coffees, teas and most other drinks contain no haram ingredients, but Costa is not halal-certified in the UK. Its hot food can contain pork or non-halal meat, and some cakes and toppings may contain gelatine.

Drinks

Coffee, milk, plant milks and most syrups are fine. Some flavourings are carried in alcohol — see alcohol in food.

Food

Toasties and sandwiches may contain ham, bacon or non-halal chicken. Ask for the ingredient list, and check cakes for gelatine.

How to check a branch

Halal status can differ between branches and change over time. Look for the certificate on display, check the brand's own website, and ask staff which items are halal and how they are cooked.

Costa Coffee at the supermarket

Costa's ground coffee, beans and coffee pods sold in supermarkets are a different question from the cafés. Plain coffee is halal; flavoured products are worth a quick look at the ingredients. See the Costa Coffee products we have checked.
