Also asked as: “Are frozen Yorkshire puddings halal?”
What to check
Look for beef dripping or suet versus vegetable oil, and for a vegetarian label. At a roast dinner, ask how they were cooked.
Dripping, oil and frozen puddings
Yorkshire pudding batter is flour, eggs, milk and salt, cooked in very hot fat. Traditionally the fat is beef dripping from the roast, which is why pub and restaurant versions may not be halal.
Frozen supermarket Yorkshire puddings are usually made with vegetable oil, and many carry a vegetarian label. Home cooks can use vegetable oil or halal dripping.
