Is Buldak Ramen Halal?

Quick answer It depends

Some Buldak ramen is halal-certified. Samyang makes halal-certified versions of Buldak, certified by the Korea Muslim Federation (KMF), mainly for export, and these packs carry a halal logo. Packs without the logo may come from non-certified production, so check the packet. Many Buldak flavours contain no meat despite the "hot chicken" name, but carbonara and cheese flavours contain milk.

Halal Buldak

Samyang, the Korean maker of Buldak, has halal certification from the Korea Muslim Federation for many of its export noodles. Halal packs show the KMF halal logo. Korean domestic packs and some other versions may not be certified, even in the same flavour, so the logo on the packet is what counts.

Is there chicken in Buldak?

"Hot chicken flavour" describes the taste. Samyang has said several export Buldak noodles, including Original, Carbonara and 3x Spicy, contain no meat ingredients, and some retailers list them as vegetarian or vegan. Recipes differ by country, so read the ingredients.

What to check

  • A halal logo, ideally from KMF.
  • Milk and cheese powders in carbonara, cheese and cream flavours: halal, but not vegan.
  • Ingredients such as "chicken extract" or "chicken fat" in other countries' versions.
