What we found about The Tofoo Co. and halal
The Tofoo Co. makes organic tofu in Yorkshire. Retailer listings give the ingredients of its plain Naked tofu as water, soya beans and nigari, a natural coagulant from seawater. The company says its soya beans are 100% organic, and its FAQ mentions a Soil Association stamp.
The smoked tofu adds sea salt and is smoked in-house on beechwood chips. The tempura and marinated products are different: the tempura version lists wheat gluten, yeast extract, spirit vinegar and other additives. We found no halal certificate for any Tofoo product. Plain tofu has no animal ingredient.
