Is Gü Halal in the UK?

1 no issues1 doubtful0 haram

We checked the ingredient lists of 2 Gü products sold in the UK: 1 had no haram or doubtful ingredients, 1 had doubtful ingredients and 0 contained haram ingredients. Halal status varies by product and by country, so check the specific product.

Based on ingredients, not on brand-wide halal certification.

What we found about Gü and halal

Gü's FAQ answers the halal question directly: "The gelatine we use in our products is beef gelatine and is halal. However, while most of our raw materials are halal, none of our products are officially certified as halal." It adds that it has a supplier and raw material approval process and is audited by BRC.

That is the company's own statement, not a certificate. Whether beef gelatine is halal depends on the cattle being slaughtered in the Islamic way, which a halal certifier would check. Because the gelatine is beef, standard Gü desserts are not suitable for vegetarians, and the vegan puddings are a separate range. If certification matters to you, treat Gü as not certified.
