Is Haribo halal?

Quick answer It depends

Most standard Haribo sold in the UK is not halal because it is made with pork gelatine. Haribo also makes a halal range in Turkey with beef gelatine and halal certification, sold in some UK shops — look for the halal logo on the pack.

Also asked as: “Are Haribo sweets halal?” · “Does Haribo contain pork gelatine?” · “Where can I buy halal Haribo?”

Why most Haribo is not halal

Gummy sweets get their chew from gelatine. In Haribo made for the UK and European market this is usually pork gelatine, which is haram. The pack simply says "gelatine", so you cannot tell the source from the ingredients alone.

Halal Haribo

Haribo produces a separate range in Turkey made with halal beef gelatine and certified halal. These packs carry a halal logo and are sold in many Asian and Middle Eastern grocers and some supermarkets.

Gelatine-free options

A few Haribo products contain no gelatine, but they can still contain carmine or shellac. Read the full list.
